Paul Costello has been appointed as a part-time Associate Commissioner to assist with the Commission's inquiry into Default Superannuation Funds in Modern Awards.

Paul has extensive experience in the superannuation industry. In 2011, he chaired the Stronger Super Consultative Group which advised the Government on how to best implement the Stronger Super package of reforms.

From 2006 to 2010 Paul was the General Manager of the Future Fund Management Agency.  Other previous positions include Chief Executive of the New Zealand Superannuation Fund and Chief Executive of the Superannuation Trust of Australia.

Paul is currently the non-executive chairman of The Blackstone Group (Australia), and a non-executive director of AIA Australia Limited.

Paul is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and holds a bachelor degree from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and a graduate diploma from Massey University, New Zealand.
