Carbon Policy Assistance Project
The Australian Government's Clean Energy Future Plan provides for several ongoing roles for the Productivity Commission. Specifically, the Commission will be, or could be, commissioned to:
- develop capability and undertake ongoing work to quantify mitigation policies in other countries
- review assistance provided under the Jobs and Competitiveness Program
- conduct assessments of impacts of the carbon pricing mechanism on particular industries
- review fuel excise arrangements
- review the impact of carbon pricing on the competitiveness of the Australian steel industry
- conduct reviews of the effects on companies producing steel of possible cost pass through by coal suppliers.
