Carbon Policy Assistance Project

The Australian Government's Clean Energy Future Plan provides for several ongoing roles for the Productivity Commission. Specifically, the Commission will be, or could be, commissioned to:

  • develop capability and undertake ongoing work to quantify mitigation policies in other countries
  • review assistance provided under the Jobs and Competitiveness Program
  • conduct assessments of impacts of the carbon pricing mechanism on particular industries
  • review fuel excise arrangements
  • review the impact of carbon pricing on the competitiveness of the Australian steel industry
  • conduct reviews of the effects on companies producing steel of possible cost pass through by coal suppliers.
