Temporary Employment Register

Application form

The Register allows the Productivity Commission to access suitable applicants at short notice for short-term employment opportunities.

Positions available through the Register will be non-ongoing (less than 18 months) and may be on a full-time, part-time or casual basis, depending on the business needs and requirements of the Commission.

Applicants will only be contacted if a vacancy arises suiting their skills and experience. There is no guarantee that an offer of employment will be made while an application remains on the register.

Applications on the Register will remain active for 12 months, or until applicants notify us that they are no longer actively seeking employment. Should applicants wish to remain on the Register after 12 months, they will need to reapply.

Duties

The Productivity Commission is looking for applicants for potential employment opportunities in either of our Canberra or Melbourne offices.

Inquiry and research roles

We are seeking expressions of interest for non-ongoing Economists, at various classifications, to assist the Commission’s wide-ranging work in economic analysis and policy advice. Our work calls for people with a strong background in economics, especially microeconomics, who are interested in investigative analysis. Skills and experience in quantitative research (including modelling, programming and econometrics), law and other social sciences are also highly valued by the Commission.

Other roles

From time to time, other roles may be available within the Commission. These include administrative or project support roles, or corporate services roles, such as in Human Resources, Information Technology, Finance, Library, Office Services or Media, Publications and Web.

If you feel your skills and experience could be valuable to the Commission in its inquiry and research work, or support roles, and you want to be on our radar should the right opportunity come along in the future, please apply below.

Former employees are welcome to register their availability to be considered for projects and individual roles.

Eligibility for employment

To be eligible for employment in the Commission, applicants must:

  • be an Australian citizen
  • satisfy a National Australian Federal Police Records check
  • satisfy any mandatory qualification requirements applicable to the position
  • satisfy any required conditions of non-ongoing engagement, such as a probationary period.

For all economic positions, academic qualifications in economics (preferably at honours level) are required, and quantitative skills (modelling, programming, and econometrics) are highly desirable.
