About the Commission

The Productivity Commission is the Australian Government's independent research and advisory body on a broad range of economic, social and environmental policy issues affecting the welfare of Australians.

About the position

The Assistant Director is responsible for leading and managing the day to day operations of the ICT team as well as supporting and assisting the Director, ICT in the provision of strategic management and leadership of the ICT function for the Commission.

About the Information Communication Technology (ICT) team

The ICT team provides design, development, implementation and support for all Commission ICT infrastructure. The team’s core objective is to ensure that the Commission staff have appropriate ICT enabled tools and technologies that are fit for purpose and dependable.

The Commission’s ICT must support and facilitate:

  • communication
  • organisation of information and data for analysis, publication and presentation purposes
  • information gathering from government, academic sources, industry and the community
  • data analysis.

ICT Infrastructure

The Commission strategy for the computing environment is to supply users with devices for day to day business and maintain an enterprise virtual server environment. It is mixture of Microsoft and vendor appliances (such as Citrix). Communications devices for office-based voice and data using VOIP technologies are managed by the ICT section. Support/maintenance is supplied by various vendors.

Educational qualifications and specialist expertise

Tertiary or qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Computer Science or Software Engineering will be highly regarded.
