Industry Commission Study

This study concluded with the completion of the report, The Electricity Industry in South Australian, which was released on 29 April 1996.

About the Study

The Industry Commission conducted a review of the structure of the SA electricity industry. The Commonwealth Assistant Treasurer asked the Commission to conduct the review, following a request from the SA Government.

The Commission reviewed issues such as:

• whether there should be greater vertical separation between generation, transmission, distribution and retailing in the SA electricity industry; and
• whether horizontal separation between generators, distributors and retailers is also necessary to stimulate competition in electricity supply in SA.
