Review of Legislation Regulating the Architectural Profession
About the Inquiry
The Commonwealth Government asked the Productivity Commission, on behalf of all State and Territory governments (except Victoria), to report within nine months on the preferred option for the regulation of the architectural profession. In so doing, the Commission is to take into account the following principles:
- legislation which restricts competition should be retained only if the benefits to the community as a whole outweigh the costs, and if the objectives of the legislation cannot be achieved more efficiently through other means; and
- the need to promote consistency between regulatory regimes and avoid duplication.
