Public Hearings

Public hearings provide participants with the opportunity to discuss and elaborate on their submissions with the Commissioners. (Those who lodge written submissions are encouraged, but are under no obligation, to appear at the public hearings.) Any organisation or person can participate in a public hearing, and we are particularly keen to hear from individuals about their personal experiences and suggestions in relation to parental leave. People can also come to the hearings and listen to the presentations of others.

The Commission's hearings processes are informal, but we will take a transcript of the proceedings and make it publicly available on the inquiry website, along with all public submissions presented.

The Commission intends to hold public hearings in the following locations during May and June 2008.

Anyone who has an interest in this inquiry may make a submission at a public hearing. If you intend to appear and make a submission, or wish to attend as an observer, please register your interest by completing the online or printed  registration form and sending it to us as soon as possible. We will then contact you to confirm the final arrangements and notify any last minute changes closer to the time of the hearing.

Please respond promptly. Hearings may run for more than one day, or may be cancelled, depending on the level of interest from participants. Your early advice of your intentions, even if only tentative, will help us in planning and scheduling the hearings. Hearings will commence at 9:00am unless we advise otherwise.
