Public inquiry

This public inquiry has concluded. The final inquiry report was released by the Australian Government on 14 July 2004.

The inquiry examined the social impacts of the legislation on people with disabilities and on the community as a whole. Among other things, the Commission was required to assess the costs and benefits of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and its effectiveness in achieving its objectives, which in summary are to:

The inquiry was particularly relevant for people with disabilities, their associates and representatives, service providers, businesses and those involved in overcoming disability discrimination.
