Measuring productivity in health service delivery

Supporting research project

Background

There is considerable interest in the potential for improving the productivity of the health workforce and health service delivery more generally. To date, however, evaluation of the productive efficiency of the health sector and how it has changed over time has been impeded by gaps in productivity measurement. Improvement in productivity measurement in the sector would fill this data gap, support assessment of reform and encourage an evaluative culture in health service delivery.

Objectives of the study

This study will build on earlier research into the estimation of productivity growth in the area of health service delivery and prepare experimental estimates of health sector productivity.
