Infrastructure and productivity: A review of theory and evidence

Research project

Background

Infrastructure plays important roles in the functioning of the economy. Many have argued that current infrastructure is inadequate and that infrastructure investment must be increased. Yet there is little reliable economic evidence of the magnitude of the impact of infrastructure on national productivity. Some recent developments in economic analysis may help to shed further light in the nature of this relationship.

Objectives of the study

To explore new economic techniques for analysing the relationship between infrastructure and productivity with a view to identifying options for, and feasibility of, future analytical work.

Timing

The expected release date is November 2008.
