Public Economic Infrastructure Financing - An International Perspective

Research Project

Background

The financing of infrastructure is topical with a widely-held belief that new investment will be required in some areas to maintain efficient economic infrastructure services. The level of investment required and reappraisals of the role of government in infrastructure provision have led to the development of new financial arrangements and instruments to promote infrastructure supply.

Objectives of the Study

An aim of the study is to report on the ways in which governments arrange finance for infrastructure investment, their strengths and weaknesses, and to investigate the factors that affect the choice of such arrangements and instruments. The study is also expected to highlight innovative approaches and their applicability in an Australian context.

Expected Release Date

November 2008
