Closing the Gap Review 2026

The PC will release a draft report in March 2027. All individuals and organisations will be given the opportunity to provide feedback on the analysis and recommendations in the draft report, by providing another submission.

All individuals and organisations are invited to have their say and provide a submission to this review.

The PC has published a paper on 7 September 2026 to help people make a submission. The paper outlines the proposed focus of the review and key questions for consultation.

Everyone is encouraged to share evidence and perspectives in a format that is most appropriate for you, including through written storytelling, artwork, research report, case studies or a video.

Initial submissions were due by 26 October 2026.

We also conducted an anonymous questionnaire for public servants to help us understand what progress is happening within governments and how to support it. The questionnaire closed on 9 October 2026.

Every three years, the Productivity Commission is required to independently review how parties to the National Agreement on Closing the Gap are progressing towards their commitments. This is the PC’s second review.

We will focus on what’s working and why, and what can be done differently to achieve meaningful change.
