This inquiry has concluded. This inquiry was asked to consider whether there are opportunities to improve fisheries regulations without compromising fishery policy and environmental objectives.

The Australian Government asked the Productivity Commission to undertake a public inquiry into the regulation of the Australian Marine Fisheries and Aquaculture Sectors. The Commission was to report to the Government within 12 months.
In undertaking this inquiry, the Commission sought public submissions, held public hearings and released a draft report to the public.
