Interim report open for consultation

Make a submission

The Australian Government has asked the Productivity Commission to inquire into the 2018 GST distribution reforms, whether current arrangements for distributing GST revenue are effective, and whether changes to distribution arrangements would deliver better outcomes.

This report contains the PC’s interim analysis, findings and recommendations. The PC is seeking feedback on its interim report.

The interim report was released on 14 August 2026.

Submissions are due by Wednesday 30 September 2026.

Public hearings

We will be holding public hearings on:

  • Monday 14 September
  • Tuesday 15 September
  • Wednesday 16 September
  • Friday 18 September.

Public hearings provide participants with the opportunity to elaborate on their submissions, respond to the submissions of others, or to discuss the interim report with Commissioners. 

Any organisation or person can participate, either to appear or to observe the proceedings.

Transcripts of the hearings will be made available in shortly after the hearings have been held. 

To ensure that the hearings are available to all interested individuals and groups in Australia, the hearings will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams.

Registration for hearings will close on Thursday 10 September.
