This submission was released in July 2001. The submission was written in response to a request from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for public comment on the approach that Australia should take to the Fourth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), to be held in November 2001 in Qatar, and any subsequent trade negotiations.
In this submission the Commission provides comments on:
- why and how the Australian government should continue to support trade liberalisation and the WTO system
- Australia's main interests in the agenda for a new round of multilateral negotiations
- other trade-related matters where the Commission has undertaken relevant research.
