We are aware that some members of the public have received unexpected emails claiming to be sent from the Productivity Commission.

Interim update 1: Water services reform directions

The PC is releasing two interim updates for National Water Reform 2026.

This interim update discusses changes to policy and regulatory settings that could improve the security, resilience and sustainability of water services in Australia.

The PC will release a second interim update including its preliminary assessment of jurisdiction’s progress towards meeting the outcomes and objectives of the 2004 National Water Initiative in early July. 

The PC invites interested people and organisations to make a written submission. Submissions are due by Friday 10 July 2026.
