What we’ve been asked to look at

The focus of the inquiry is on how well the system of compensation and rehabilitation for military veterans (serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members) is meeting its aims, and whether the system is likely to effectively and efficiently support veterans in the future.

How can you contribute to the inquiry?

This issues paper is intended to assist participants in preparing a submission. It sets out some of the issues and questions the Commission has identified as relevant at this early stage of the inquiry. Participants should provide evidence to support their views, including data and specific examples where possible.

Draft report release

The Commission sought further information and feedback on the draft report by 11 February 2019.

Final report to Government and release

The final inquiry report was handed to the Australian Government on 27 June 2019 and publicly released on 4 July 2019.

The report sets out the Commission's findings and recommendations on a better way to support veterans. The key message of the report is that despite recent improvements to the system, the current veterans' compensation and rehabilitation system requires fundamental reform.
