Driving productivity growth – in conversation with Danielle Wood

Presentation to the Committee for Economic Development of Australia

22 October 2025

At a Perth lunch event hosted by the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) on 22 October 2025, Productivity Commission (PC) Chair Danielle Wood discussed why Australia’s productivity growth has stalled and what can be done to reignite it.

Drawing on the PC’s latest work, the presentation outlined how a shift towards less capital-intensive service industries, weaker technological advances, low investment, reduced economic dynamism and a long-term decline in the emphasis on growth in policy making have contributed to the slowdown.

It highlighted how smarter policy settings can unlock innovation, boost efficiency and support intergenerational fairness – ensuring today’s choices help secure prosperity for future generations.
