What we are looking at
In the context of the Trade and Assistance Review work program, the Commission has initiated a project to clarify the costs and benefits associated with ‘nuisance tariffs’. That is tariffs that raise little revenue for the Australian Government, have negligible benefits for Australian producers, but impose compliance burdens on businesses.
The Commission will publish a standalone report on the topic and use it as the basis for further work in the 2020-2021 Trade and Assistance Review that is due to be published in mid-2022.
Report release
The final research report is expected to be publicly released in May 2022.
This date may change depending upon other priorities.
