Housing supply regulation

Call for submissions
Released 01 / 06 / 2026
Australia faces a housing shortage. We do not have enough homes, where people need them, at prices they can afford.
The Productivity Commission has been asked to examine how regulations across all levels of government can be improved to speed up delivery of new housing and boost construction productivity.
The inquiry will identify and prioritise reforms to reduce unnecessary regulatory barriers to housing, support the National Housing Accord, and help Australia build more well-located homes.
This paper outlines the focus of the inquiry and identifies a range of issues on which the PC seeks information and feedback.

You are invited to read the paper and make a submission by Monday 15 June 2026.
