Estimating industry-level multifactor productivity: methods and experimental results

Conference presentation

The conference presentation, Estimating industry-level multifactor productivity: methods and experimental results, was presented by Simon Zheng from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, at the Productivity Perspectives 2004 conference.

Abstract

The presentation summarises the methods and experimental results from an ABS project of estimating industry-level multifactor productivity (MFP) for the market-sector industries in Australia. We also discuss the issues of the open versus closed economy MFP measures; the difference between the aggregate and industry-level approaches to MFP estimation, and the impact of using the exogenous internal rate of return on the capital services and MFP estimates.
