Competition in the Australian Financial System
The Australian Government asked the Productivity Commission to undertake a 12-month inquiry into competition in Australia's financial system.

The consultation paper outlined the broad scope of the inquiry and was intended to assist you in preparing a submission.
Initial submissions were due by 15 September 2017.
The Commission also sought further information and feedback on the draft report.
Submissions were due by 20 March 2018.
The final inquiry report was handed to the Australian Government on 29 June 2018.
The release of the final report by the Government is the final step in the process.
Under the Productivity Commission Act 1998, the Government is required to table the report in each House of the Parliament within 25 sitting days of receipt.
The Commission reviewed competition in Australia's financial system with a view to improving consumer outcomes, the productivity and international competitiveness of the financial system and economy more broadly, and supporting ongoing financial system innovation, while balancing financial stability objectives.
