Costs of doing business: retail trade industry

Case study

This study has concluded. The research report was released on 10 October 2014.

As part of the broader study on the Relative Costs of Doing Business in Australia, the Australian Government requested that the Productivity Commission:

  • undertake a case study of the costs facing businesses in the Australian retail trade industry, such as costs relating to capital, labour, intermediate inputs and regulatory compliance
  • where relevant, identify areas of cost advantage and disadvantage for Australian businesses relative to international competitors.

In undertaking the study, the Commission will consult with governments and other interested groups.
