University resourcing: Australia in an international context

Commissioned study

This commissioned study has concluded. The research report was released on 11 February 2003.

The Productivity Commission was asked to undertake international comparisons of the resourcing of higher education institutions and the management of those resources.

The objective of the study was to collect information for Australia and other countries on universities' income by source, their assets and liabilities, the management of resources and associated constraints, and accountability mechanisms for good financial management.

The study was overseen by Commissioner Michael Woods, and in the earlier stages, by the late Deputy Chairman, Professor Richard Snape.
