This Commission submission is in response to a request by the Treasury's Competition Taskforce. The Commission has not attempted to address all the questions and issues raised by the Taskforce, but has focussed on the economic issues around the design of the merger clearance regime, particularly in relation to the design of a merger regime that provides incentives for parties to reveal relevant information and limits strategic manipulation (‘gaming’) by the parties involved in the clearance.
The Commission provided the submission to the Competition Taskforce on 19 January 2024 and it was published on the Commission's website on 11 April 2024.
